bullet  General Notes:

The baptism records for a number of the children appear to have been squeezed into the register as if they were not done at the time. Very curious, I wonder if they were originally baptised in a Catholic church and subsequently added to the registers of the Church of Scotland, maybe after another baptism???

At the time of the 1841 Census he was living at Cairn Park, Dollar, Clackmannan. He was recorded as 40 years of age (inconsistent with 1851 Census below), occupation Police Constable, not born in the County. Living with him were his wife, recorded as Jean, aged 40, not born in the County; daughter Christina, aged 16, not born in the County; son Thomas, aged 14, not born in the County; daughter Isabella, aged 9, not born in the County; daughter Margaret aged 9, not born in the County; and Elisabeth, aged 1, born in the County. There is no reference to Mary who would have been 13 nor Agnes who would have been 7, suggesting that perhaps they were deceased by this time. I have not found a record of Margaret's or Elizabeth's birth.

At the time of the 1851 Census he was living at 135 Castle St, Hamilton, Scotland. He was recorded as 56 years old, a Weaver, birthplace Barony, Glasgow. Living with him were his wife Jane, aged possibly 51, a Pirnfiller (someone who winds wool onto a spool), birthplace Gorbals, Glasgow; daughter Isabella, aged 18, also a Pirnfiller, birthplace Slamannan; daughter Margaret aged 14, a Sewer (one who sews presumably!), also born Slamannan; daughter Elizabeth, aged 12, also a Sewer, also born Slamannan and son Thomas, aged 24, a Handloom Weaver, born Slamannan.
