At the time of the 1841 census William and his family are living at Bass Hill and Eden Farm, Urr, Kirkcudbright. William is a Labourer aged 40, born in Ireland. Fanny is 30 also born in Ireland. Children are William,9, Margaret,6, Sarah, 4 and Thomas 2. All children born in the county.

At the time of the 1851 census William and his family are living at Lochrutton, Kirkcudbright in a cabin at Hills Wood. He is 50, a woodcutter, born in Ireland. Living here also is his wife Fanny, 40, born Ireland and children William, 19, single, a woodcutter, Sarah, 13, Thomas 12, John, 9. All the children were recorded as born in Kirkmabreck.

In 1861 William is living by himself in a cabin at Cardoness Wood at Amroth in Kirkcudbright. He is aged 60, a woodcutter, born Ireland. For Fanny and the rest of the family see Fanny's profile.
