Robert Saunders

   Another name for Robert was Robert Sanders.

The birth year is a very rough estimate based on his death year.

Robert's Will was written 20 Nov 1598 and was proved 21 Nov 1599 so he died somewhere between these dates. He was sick when he wrote his Will so probably died early in that range. He is named as "Robert Sanders the Elder" in the opening paragraph of his will. This is interesting as no Robert Saunders/Sanders the younger is mentioned in the Will. It is possible that the younger Robert is his grandson (son of George) and this is possibly borne out by the fact that a Robert Saunders and his brother John of Lunstone in Stratton took on the properties he leased near Poughill by Robert the Elder and which he left to his son Richard in 1615.

He was described as a Yeoman of Stratton and his bequests suggest he was a prosperous man. He made a donation to the poor of "Poughell" clearly showing the links to Poughill that feature in subsequent generations.

Robert married Jone Unknown. (Jone Unknown was born circa 1550 in prob Cornwall, England, died in Jul 1607 in Kilkhampton, Cornwall, England and was buried on 5 Jul 1607 in Kilkhampton, Cornwall, England.)
