At the time of the 1841 Census he is living in Lower Road, St Mary, Islington East. He was recorded as 30 years old (5 years out) and born in the county (which he was not). His occupation is carpenter. Living with him was his wife Sarah, 25, born in the county (which she was not), an umbrellamaker. Son James was 8 months old and born in the county. Also living with them was Harriet Spashott, 12, most likely a sister to Sarah and Thomas Robson, a painter, and his wife Anne.

At the time of the 1851 Census he was living at 15 Lower Road, Islington, Middlesex. He was aged 35, a carpenter, born Camelford, Cornwall. Living here also was his wife Sarah, 33, an umbrella maker, born Portsea in Hampshire and children James, 10, born Holborn, Edward, 6, Harriet, 2 and Caroline, 1 all born in Islington, Middlesex. Living here also was Sarah's sister, Mary Spashott, 26, born Holborn, also an umbrella maker; and Sarah's cousin John Howes, 25, a carpenter born in Middlesex.

At the time of the 1871 Census he was Widowed and living at 134 Kingsland High St, West Hackney, London. He was 56 and an umbrella manufacturer, born Cornwall, Camelford. Living with him were his son James T., 29, also an umbrella manufacturer, born Holborn and daughters Harriet and Caroline, 22 and 21, both born Islington.

At the time of the 1891 Census he was living at 67 Holloway Rd, Islington. He was 75, Widowed, a retired builder, born Camelford. Living with him was his son James T, single, 50, a Hatter, born Holborn; daughters Harriet P. and Caroline, both single aged 42 and 41. Also living here was Grand-daughter Emily Arnall, 17, single, a hat trimmer, born in Islington.

When he died he left his estate valued at GBP 1,507 11s. 11d. to his son James Thomas, hatter and daughter Caroline, Spinster.
