bullet  General Notes:

At the time of the 1851 census he is living on Old Woolwich Road, Greenwich. He is aged 48, a Shoemaker, born in Maidstone, Kent. Living with him is his wife Sarah, 42 and recorded as born in Maidstone, Kent. Sarah's children are not recorded as his step-children in this census, rather as "son" and "Daughters". They are: Agnes Gouldthorp, 18, recorded as born Hampshire (note: believed to be an error, and meant to be Sarah's birthplace, see later census records); George Gouldthorp, 16, born Greenwich; William Gouldthorp, 14, born Greenwich; James Gouldthorp, 8, born Greenwich; and Walter Richardson, 12 months, born Greenwich.

At the time of the 1861 census he is living at 2 Norfolk Cottage, Greenwich. he is 55, a Shoemaker, born Hurkester (NB believed to be Hawkhurst), Kent. Living with him is wife, Sarah, 50, born Portsmouth, Hampshire and stepson William, 24, single, born Greenwich, a sailor with HM Navy. Notably, son Walter, who would have been 11 is not living with them, he may have died by this time.

At the time of the 1871 census he is living at No. 5 East St, Greenwich. There are a number of single person/small households at this address. He is 68, a Greenwich Pensioner, born (looks like) Hawkhurst, Kent which is about 19 miles south of Maidstone. His wife Sarah is living with him, 57, born Portsmouth.

William married Sarah Ann Brooker. (Sarah Ann Brooker was born circa 1811 in Portsmouth, , Hampshire, England and died after 29 Jul 1863.)
