Margaret and her first 5 children came to Australia on the Forest Rights in 1863 to join her husband who had come to Australia in 1858. After an arduous 4 month journey on sea, bullock wagon and on foot they were reunited on on a dirt track not far from Harrietville where George had settled.

• She emigrated to Melbourne on the "Forest Rights" embarking on a 140 day journey on 17 Feb 1863.

Margaret married George Jones **, son of William Jones ** and Margaret Greig **, on 22 Oct 1847 in Newarthill, Lanark, Scotland. (George Jones ** was born on 1 Feb 1825 in Cockenzie, East Lothian, Scotland, christened on 24 Mar 1825 in Cockenzie, East Lothian, Scotland, died on 3 Jan 1899 in Harrietville, Victoria, Australia and was buried on 5 Jan 1899 in Harrietville Cemetery, Harrietville, Victoria, Australia.). The cause of his death was Mitral Disease/ Cardiac Failure of long standing.
