bullet  General Notes:

Many of the McLusky/McLuskie/McCluskys appear to have originated from Ireland.

Son William was illegitimate so John and Mary Jones were not married.

There are records of the birth of two children to a John McClusky and Mary Maitland in Penninghame where William was also born. These were Agnes bapt. 2 Mar 1810 and Matilda bapt. 16 Jul 1811. It is possible this was the same John and that Mary Maitland died after Matilda's birth,as no more children appear to have been born to this couple. If this is the same John it would push his birth year a little further back.
There is a record of a John McClusky aged 45 in the 1841 census (so birthyear about 1796). He was a farm servant born in Ireland and was living in Penninghame (where son William was born) on a farm of 90 acres named Mulloch with the family that owned it headed by Peter and Agnes Agnew. He was not recorded as either married or unmarried but he had no family members there.

The only post 1855 death I can find is for John McCluskey 12 Sep 1860 in Lochrutten, Kirkcudbright. This John was aged 64, giving a 1796 birth year, was married to Margaret Grierson and did have a number of children. It's not clear if this is the same John.

John married Mary Jones. (Mary Jones was born circa 1795 in poss Ireland.)

bullet  Marriage Notes:

Their child, William was described as a "natural child" on his birth record i.e. illegitimate so they may not have married.
