Reginald Robert McGeorge enlisted as a Private in the 1st Camel Regiment of the Light Horse on the 24th October 1916 in Brisbane, Queensland. He was assigned the service number 1947a. He listed his brother Lyn of "Lynwood", Adavale, Windorah, Queensland as his next of kin. Reg was 28 years and 4 months old, 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighed 150 lbs. His chest was 35-39 inches, he had a dark complexion with brown eyes and brown hair. He recorded his religion as C of E.

He left Sydney on the Karmala on 3 February 1917, disembarking in Suez on the 11th March 1917 and served in Egypt mostly in the 4th Australia Light Horse Bde, but with a couple of stints in the 11th. On the 20 April 1918 he was sent to Farriers School, returning to his unit (the 4th) two months later. On the 29 June he was reassigned again to the 11th Light Horse Regiment and it was while serving with them that he was wounded in action on 25th September 1918. He received a gunshot wound to his left arm which fractured the humerus bone. It was to mark the end of the war for Reg - after stints in several hospitals he embarked at Suez on the Aneas for Australia on 1st January 1919. He was discharged from the army on 28th March 1919.

Reginald was the recipient of the British War medal No 27869 and the Victory medal, No. 26640.

Reginald married Maude Alma Horsington, daughter of John Waygood Horsington and Lillian Harriett Coombs, on 2 Jan 1922 in Maroo Stn, Via Quilpie, Queensland, Australia. (Maude Alma Horsington was born on 31 Oct 1901 in "Congie" Stn, Quilpie, , Queensland, Australia, christened about 1907 in "Retreat" Stn, Windorah, Qld, Australia, died in 2010 and was buried in 2010 in "Regleigh", Quilpie, Qld, Australia.)
