bullet  General Notes:

Her 15 year old sister, Euphemia was the informant on her birth record.

She was commonly and affectionately known in the family as Auntie Bet.

She married her husband Thomas Martin in Seymour just a week after he enlisted in the AIF. However, it seems that the families knew each other well before that as there is a picture of Elizabeth taken with Thomas' sister, Ethel, which appears to have been taken around 1908-1910.

October 1917 must have been a very traumatic time for Elizabeth - she received confirmation from the Red Cross that her husband had been killed in France in November, and her father passed away in October.

Aunty Bet never remarried after the death of her husband. For many years she lived with her sister, Margaret or Aunty Pops, and their house in Bell Street Hawthorn was a popular destination for nieces and nephews who were doted upon when they were there by their Aunts.

She worked with the PMG (Post Master General) at Spencer Street for many years. When the PMG held their Annual Picnic she would invite all of her great nieces and nephews along.
