bullet  General Notes:

On his birth record his middle name looks quite like "David" but on his death certificate it is clearly "Daniel".

From the Corowa Free Press - Tuesday 1st January 1878:
"A Frightful Accident-A terrible accident by which a boy named Edmund Sullivan lost his life happened at Gumbargana on Monday last. It appears that the boy in company with an elder person was driving a stripper drawn by four horses, and that the gear by which the team was coupled to the stripper broke. As soon as the chain divided the swingle bar fell against the heels of the shaft horses, causing them to kick violently and then bolt. The unfortunate boy, who was riding the leading horse, tried to pull the team up, but was unable to do so, and in the plunging which ensued was thrown amoungst the horses, which passed over him, trampling his body as he lay. The elder person who was left on the stripper ran up to where the boy was laying, and after making an examination found that he was quite dead. The accident was immediately reported to the police at Howlong, and on the following day Mr W.B.Wragge, J.P. held an inquest when the foregoing facts were elicited. A verdict of accidental death was returned and the boy was buried the next day."

He is confirmed buried at the Pioneer's Cemetery in Corowa, but in an unknown location. Probably amongst a number of children's graves near the back of the Cemetery in the older section which are all unmarked today.

Goombargana was originally a Squatters run, but today is a small township.
