There is a record of a Samuel Saunders, son of Samuel Saunders, tanner taking out a lease for a "Dwelling house and garden on the north side of the lane from Pitton Cross to Stratton, opposite the house late of Diggory Brock of Lancells, husbandman, deceased" on 2 February 1710. His fellow lessors were "Robert Saunders of Stratton, yeoman, John Call, son of Richard Call of Stratton, yeoman". Robert was most likely his cousin.
