Cause of her death was Bronchitis, 1 year. Another name for Helen was Ellen Cowie. General Notes: At the time of the 1861 Census she was living at Sewhouse, Bankfoot, Lesmahagow and named as Ellen. She was a 62 year old Pauper. Her house had 2 rooms with windows. Living with her were her unmarried sons, Matthew H. aged 31, an agricultural labourer; William, 29, a Church Officer and Sexton; James, 19 a Journeyman Joiner. Also living here were granddaughter Helen Riddel, 13, a cotton weaver; Janet Black, granddaughter, aged 3 born Lesmahagow; Janet Main, daughter, 23, married and a farm servant's wife; and a grandson Robert Main, aged 2 months, born Lesmahagow. I do not presently know where Janet Black and Helen Riddell fit in. Helen married James Cowie, son of Matthew Cowie and Janet Hill. (James Cowie was born on 1 Nov 1779 in Bothwell, Lanark, Scotland, christened on 10 Nov 1779 in Bothwell, Lanark, Scotland, died on 22 Nov 1859 in Bankfoot, Lesmahagow, Lanark, Scotland and was buried in Nov 1859 in Churchyard of, Lesmahagow, Lanark, Scotland.). The cause of his death was Asthma and old age, months. |
