William Charles Josephs

  General Notes:

William enlisted in the A.I.F. on 22 December 1914. He was issued with the Service number 334 and assigned to the Light Horse Reserve on 22 Feb 1915. By 2 October 1915 he was at Anzac Cove, Gallipoli and transferred to the 6th Light Horse, D Squadron. He was recorded as a Shoeing Smith, presumably attending to the horses shoes. From 5 November he was attached to the Railway Section there. Soon after he was admitted to hospital suffering from Rheumatic fever, not returning to service until 22 February 1916. At this time he was assigned to the 12th Light Horse which by this time was in Egypt. In late May he suffered another mishap when he fractured a foot which required hospitalisation until the beginning of July. He was in and out of hospital and serving in Egypt, Palestine and modern day Syria until he embarked on the Euripides for home on 14 March 1919.

William was the recipient of the 1914/15 Star, No. 20006; the British War Medal, No 12555; and the Victory Medal, No 12362.

William married Rosina White in 1922 in Glebe, New South Wales, Australia.

William next married Margaret May Sullivan, daughter of William John O'Sullivan and Catherine Mary Smith, in 1922 in Glebe, New South Wales, Australia. (Margaret May Sullivan was born on 27 Sep 1891 in Mt Crystal nr, Landervale, , New South Wales, Australia.)
