bullet  General Notes:

Her Baptism record is confusing on two fronts:

The record reads "John Horn, fisher, Cockenzie and Jane Johnston his wife had twins, a daughter named Anne, and Anne born 23 Oct and baptd 4th Novem. 1844"

1. So she was one of twins but the other is not named correctly on the Baptism record. The 1851 Census reveals that the other daughter's name was Jane. This makes sense with each girl being named after the mothers of their parents. It might also suggest that Jane was the first one born. The household on the Main Street of Cockenzie comprised John, a Fisherman aged 36 (consistent with his birth year of 1815), Marion his wife aged 30, Jane and Anne, daughters, both aged 6. All were born in the Tranent Parish.
2. The mother's name is recorded as Johnston. But Anne's marriage record and death record clearly name the mother as Jane Jones. There are no recorded marriages of a John Horn(e) to a Jane or Jean Johnston(e) nor any records of any children born to a couple with those names. It seems clear that the Registrar wrote the wrong name (her paternal grandmother was a Johnston, perhaps this is where the confusion came in). Her sister Jane's first daughter was named "Jane Jones Thomson" further supporting the lineage. Jane Jones is named as the mother by respected Genealogist William Addams Reitwiesner http://www.wargs.com/royal/donaldson.html

Interestingly at the time of the 1851 Census she and her family appear to be living next door to her future husband Peter Donaldson and his family.
