Her mother's name is recorded as Eliza Butcher at Vic BDM, and Eliza Cartledge formerly Butcher on her birth certificate. However she clearly signed her name "Sarah Cartledge".

She was born at Kingower, a small town about 30kms from where the family was living, Tarnagulla.

Martha died as a result of burning to death when her clothes caught fire. Her death was the subject of an Inquest held on the 6th December 1877. She is buried in the Wedderburn Cemetery, CofE Section, Plot No. 96. The Burial No. was 266. http://www.australiancemeteries.com/vic/loddon/wedderburn1.htm
