William served for 22 years in London Fire Brigade in various Fire Stations including Shoreditch and Bow.
He retired on ill health (Fibrositus) from the Bow Station and moved to Coulston Wiltshire where he lived for 3 years in a pretty country cottage. He then bought an empty shop in Edington Wiltshire (this is the next village to Coulston) and turned this into a village store where he stayed for a further 3 years. Then moved to Whitstable where he had a greengrocers general shop in Canterbury Road for about 7 years. Josie (Grace Emily Josephine) was married in 1941 from this address.
Moved to Barham near Canterbury for 10 years, then Tyler Hill near Canterbury and then East Peckham, Kent. Both William Edgar and his wife Grace went into a Blind Home in Ramsgate and finally into a Nursing Home in Westgate where they both died aged 95. They were buried in Margate Cemetery.
