Frederick Arnold Butt

Hello Tony
My distant connection with the name BUTT is through marriage of 3x great
grandparents Rhoda BUTT to John
DOWNER in 1802 [Sussex England] and there were a couple of other marriages
between the families in later generations.
Along with a DOWNER family tree I inherited a BUTT family tree, dating fro m
Tymothy Butt born in 1715. As he had 22 children the tree is a spreading
one!
I don't know if any of the NZ Butts descend from Tymothy but if their
ancestors came from Sussex there is a good chance of it.

There are a couple of Butt names in the Nelson phone book and 8 entries in
the 1981 edition of the Nelson College Old boys Register. One of my sons w as
very friendly with Nigel Butt [son of Dr Butt] who sadly died young.

Where does the name Butt come in your family research? Let me know if you
want further information on what I have listed.

I was born in Wellington 1928, 5th child of Bernard and May JOYES. My
father's maternal grandparents were the Downers.
