At the time of the 1841 census he is a resident of the Greenwich Royal Hospital for Seamen, aged 40, and recorded as a "Pensioner". He was born in the County.
James Henry Gouldthorp's baptism record shows his parents as Henry Alders and Sarah, with Henry Alders crossed out, surname for the child is Gouldthorpe, and Sarah is recorded as a "single woman" of East Street, Greenwich. Given that Sarah had a son named James, aged 8, living with her at the time of the 1851 census, and she lived in East Street, and she was widowed at this time I believe that this is her James. I believe that Henry Alders was the father but that, for whatever reason, his name was crossed out - perhaps as the child was not going to carry his name.
Henry had a relationship with Sarah Ann Brooker. (Sarah Ann Brooker was born circa 1811 in Portsmouth, , Hampshire, England and died after 29 Jul 1863.)
