Cyril was named after his mother's brother who was killed in France in WW1 the year before he was born, and his own father who was killed in France in WW1, just a few months after his birth.

In 1949 he was working as a mechanic and living at 100 Albion Street in West Brunswick with his mother. By 1954 he was a fitter and living at 15 Beaconsfield Rd, Auburn and living with his wife, named as Mary Emma. In 1963 he was still a fitter but now was living at Mitchell Ave, Boronia with his second wife Emma Mary (they married in about 1961).
