At the time of the 1841 Census Philip was living in St Cuthbert's Edinburgh. He was aged 35, an Upholsterer. Living with him were his wife, Jannet aged 35; son Philip aged 14; daughter Jessie, aged 10; son Florent aged 7; daughter Agnes aged 1; and Agnes Jones, aged 25, occupation F.S. (Farm Servant?). All of them were recorded as born in the County. Agnes Jones is probably Janet's sister although the age doesn't quite match (but nor does Janet's).
