There is a very entertaining chapter devoted to Vic Attridge in the book, Hairy Chested History by Ian Stapleton.
There is a small footbridge in Harrietville across the Ovens River named the Vic Attridge Bridge. He was a respected and well-known mountain cattleman. His grandparents came to the Ovens Valley seeking gold and his father was a miner too. The family moved to Melbourne when Vic was 15 years old and he hated it. By the age of 17 he had returned to Harrietville where he spent the rest of his long and productive and successful life.
After Essie died in 1990 he moved into an old age hostel in Bright. He surprised many when he announced that he was to marry again at the age of 92 to Mary Masterson, another resident of the hostel.
Ernest married Essie Isabel Hocking, daughter of John Hocking and Esther Elizabeth Peters, on 1 Oct 1927. (Essie Isabel Hocking was born on 14 Nov 1901 in Harrietville, Victoria, Australia, died on 11 Nov 1990 in Bright, Victoria, Australia and was buried in Nov 1990 in Harrietville Cemetery, Harrietville, Victoria, Australia.)
Ernest next married Mary Masterson on 1 Oct 1927.
