Walter and his brother James married sisters who were first cousins - Margaret Hardie Hocking and Florence Rita Lawrence, both Grand-daughters of George Jones and Margaret Hardie. Their brother George's wife married Margaret Hocking's brother, Ezekiel, after George died.


His ashes were scattered at the Fawkner Park Crematorium.
