bullet  General Notes:

There is a record of a "John Jones from Cockenzie" burial in Prestonpans in 1831 which is most likely him. He is buried 20' from the North Wall and 10' from the East which is in a Jones enclave in the cemetery. The burial register entry does not, unfortunately, record an age.

I cant find a record of him in the 1841 Census.

The 1861 Census records on an otherwise empty page a handful of people who were absent from the Parish of Tranent at the time. Amongst those listed were a John Jones and a Robert Jones with the notation "at the Whale Fishing". As his first cousin, also named John, is already accounted for this may be this John, but I suspect it is the cousin.

In the 1881 Census there is a record of a John Jones, aged 74, (so birth year around 1807) who was born in Cockenzie, on board the vessel Ellen Bates which was moored at the Camperdown Dock in Dundee. He was married and a Ship-Keeper (Mariner). This possibly this John Jones as I have no record of any other John Jones being born around this time in Cockenzie, except for his cousin (son of John Jones) who is already accounted for in the 1881 Census, also in Dundee.

I have so far been unable to find a death record for this John after 1881.
