John was apparently a convict who came to Australia from Norfolk, England. It is possible that he was John DAINES, born abt 1813 Norfolk who committed highway robbery at Wymondham in 1831 with his partners in crime were William MILLER and James POLL. All 3 were transported to Sydney, Australia on the Planter in 1832 where they settled and married.
His Funeral Notice appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald on the 6th November 1882: The friends of the deceased John William Deane are respectfully invited to his Funeral; to leave his son's residence. West Street, St Leonards for Church of England Cemetery, at 2 o'clock, THIS DAY, Monday. Howard and Anderson, Undertakers, Walker Street.
