At the time of the 1851 Census he and Emma are living in the household of Emma's parents - William, a shoemaker and Rebecca a lacemaker - in Potterspury. William is 22, a Journeyman Mason born in Potterspury. Emma is a Lacemaker (like her mother), also 22 and born in Potterspury. Living with them are children Levi, 2 and Thomas, 3 months, both born Potterspury.

At the time of the 1861 Census William and his family were living in Blackwell End, Potterspury. William was recorded as aged 32, a Mason, born in Potterspury. Living with him were his wife Emma, aged 32, a Lacemaker (she was to die just a few months later), also born in Potterspury and his children, Levi, aged 12, an Agricultural Labourer, son John aged 10, a Scholar, son Thomas aged 8, a Scholar, daughter Mary A. aged 6, a Scholar and son George aged 3. All the children were born in Potterspury.

At the time of the 1871 Census, a widowed William was still living in Blackwell End, Potterspury. He was recorded as aged 45, a Masonborn in Potterspury. Living with him were his children Levi, aged 22, by now a Mason also, Thomas, aged 18 also a Mason, daughter Mary A. aged 16, son George aged 12, a Mason, and daughters Maria, aged 8 and Annie aged 6. Maria and Annie's mother, Elizabeth, is not mentioned, and William is recorded as Widowed suggesting she was dead by this time. Living nearby was Joshua Bason, aged 64, a widower and Bricklayer. This was William's Uncle, brother to his father John.
