William Henry Sole

  General Notes:

Around 1890-1891 he and his family were living with his sister Susannah and her husband Thomas Denis O'Sullivan at "Mountain View" at Warri, near Narrandera in New South Wales, Australia. Two of his children were born in NSW, with Sarah Ellen definitely born at Warri in 1891. Sarah Ellen was born on the 22 September 1891, just six days after the death of her cousin Sarah Ellen O'Sullivan from Croup on 14 September 1981, also at the same property. No doubt she was named in honour of her deceased cousin. Interestingly Sarah Ellen Sole's Birth Certificate refers to "Previous Issue 1 male living" which would be William Henry (Jnr). No reference is made to her sister Susan Mary (no doubt named for her Aunt Susannah Mary O'Sullivan), who was apparently also born in 1891 (presumed to be twins) but for whom no birth record can be found.

Faye Clark in her excellent book on the Sole Family, From the Marshes to the Mountain, speculates that this child may in fact have been Susan Mary O'Sullivan, daughter of Thomas Denis O'Sullivan and Susannah Sole (William's sister). This is not the case as Susan Mary O'Sullivan married Alexander Graham and lived and died in Australia.

• He worked as a Labourer at the time of Sarah Ellen's birth on 22 Sep 1891 in "Mountain View", Warri near, Ardlethan, , New South Wales, Australia.

• He resided at the time of daughter Sarah Ellen's birth on 12 Sep 1891 in "Mountain View", Warri near, Ardlethan, , New South Wales, Australia.

• He resided at at the time of son Edward's death on 31 May 1916 in 36 Ashley St, Rangiora, New Zealand.

William married Emma Wills, daughter of William Wills and Mary King, on 2 Jul 1890 in Timaru, New Zealand. (Emma Wills was born on 8 Feb 1870 in Daventry, , Northampton, England, died on 7 Jul 1939 in Christchurch, New Zealand and was buried on 10 Jul 1939 in Linwood, New Zealand.)
