John Brown

  General Notes:

There is a record in "Monumental Inscriptions (pre-1855) in East Stirlingshire" of a grave in the Larbert Churchyard as follows:

#494 "1798; John Brown & Helen Simpson; Wm Laird & Grizell Thomas; (on top) no. 81"
This is our couple, although the 1798 is confusing as their last son William was baptised in 1799. I am speculating that perhaps Helen died in childbirth and William's baptism was delayed... William Laird was John & Helen's nephew, son of Helen's sister Mary. Grizell Thomas was his wife.

  Noted events in his life were:

• He worked as a Coal Miner according to son William's Death Certificate.

John married Helen Simpson, daughter of Alexander Simpson and Hellen Brown, on 21 May 1785 in Larbert, Stirling, Scotland. (Helen Simpson was born on 14 Mar 1763 in Larbert, Stirling, Scotland, died in 1798 in Larbert, Stirling, Scotland and was buried in 1798 in Larbert Churchyard Cemetery, Larbert, Stirling, Scotland.)
