bullet  General Notes:

At the time of the 1861 Census he was aged 19 and ilving with his Grandparents, Richard and Sarah Welsh at 71 Harbour St, Creetown, Kirkcudbright.

According to his marriage certificate he was 23 which places his birth year at 1840.

According to the 1841 Census he was 8 months old which would place his birth year at abt 1840 (this is likely to be the most accurate). According to the 1871 Census he was 29 which would place his birth year at 1842. According to his Death Certificate he was 49 which places his birth year at 1841.

There were no children living with James & Esther at the time of the 1881 Census.

It appears that he signed his wife's Death Certificate as McLusky.

He died from Exposure on the side of the highway. An investigation was undertaken and a Register of Corrected Entries recorded against his Death Certificate. This document records that James was a Tailor, and married. His usual residence was recorded as Crocketford in the Parish of Urr. His age was 49 years, father William McCluskey, Pedlar. On the 2nd March 1890 he was found dead on the public road opposite Nunland in the Parish of Lochrutton [nb about 4 miles from Dumfries]. The Cause of Death was recorded as "Exposure consequent on the deceased lying down on the side of the road while in a state of intoxication". His Death record incorrectly records his mother's name as Margaret, probably a simple error made by the Informant who was his son-in-law.

bullet  Medical Notes:

The informant was his son-in-law Thomas Ferguson.
