bullet  General Notes:

Gabriel was from the parish of Cambuslang and Fyffe from Old Monkland when they married. The marriage was registered in both parishes.

In the 1841 census his name is recorded as Gebart or Gilbert Muir and Fyyfe is recorded as Fife ("File" in some transcriptions). However this is definitely them as son Hunter is 1 year old and his death certificate records his parents names as Gabriel and Fyfe.

In 1841 they are living at Shettleston, Lanark. Both Gabriel and Fyyfe are recorded as 40 years of age when Gabriel would have been about 47 and Fyyfe about 51. Gabriel is a cotton handloom weaver. The whole family is recorded as having been born in Lanark, although Fyffe was born in Clackmannanshire. Living with them are their children: Mary, 25; Ann, 20; Robert, 15; John, 16; Gilbert (Gabriel?) 13, Alexander, 11; James, 10; Thomas, 6; William, 4; Hunter 1.

In the 1851 census he is recorded as Gilbert and Fyyfe as Fife. By this time they are living at 11 Hart St, Barony, Glasgow. Gabriel is a cotton handloom weaver aged 60, born Cambuslang and Fyyfe is aged 59, born in "Stirling, Larfour" (I'm unable to find a place with that name). Both Gabriel and Fyffe have a tick in the column headed "whether Blind or deaf and dumb". As Gabriel was working as a cotton hand loom weaver he must have been the latter. Living with them are children, all born in Glasgow, James, 22, single, a Cotton Warper; Thomas, 17, single a Cotton weaver; William, 14, a cotton weaver; Hunter, 10, a cotton weaver.

At the time of the 1861 census they are still living at 11 hart St and still recorded as Gilbert and Fife. Both are recorded as 66 years of age, which is at last close to the mark for Gabriel but still a little understated for Fyyfe! Gabriel is recorded as born in Cambuslang, and this time Fyffe is recorded as born in Larbert, Stirling. Living with them are children Alexander, married, 32 and Engine Keeper; William, 24, single, and Engine Keeper, and Hunter H, 22, and Engine keeper. their house had 2 rooms with one or more windows.

In the 1871 census they are still at 11 Hart St. He is recorded as Gilbert and she is now recorded as "Jessie". Gabriel is a cotton weaver. Both are aged 76, Gabriel born Cambusland and Fyyfe born in Airth, Stirling. Living with the is Robet M Finlay, a cousin to Gabriel, 28, a coal miner born in Cambuslang.
