At the time of the 1861 Census John, a fisherman aged 46, and Margaret, 47, were living in Cockenzie with 3 children - John 21, Peter, 19 (both Fisherman) and George aged 9, a Scholar. Living next door was Marion Horn(e) and her children one of whom, Ann, would grow up to marry Peter.
