Arthur John Sandford Cotter

  General Notes:

He appears to have served in the Australian Army attaining the rank of Major. However I can find no record of his service (possibly Army Reserve, see below). He was awarded an O.B.E in 1968 for Services to the Community when his rank of "Major" was used, and the suffix "E.D." denoting a defunct medal of Britain and the Commonwealth awarded for meritorious and long service in the Territorial Army of the UK, the Indian Volunteer Forces and Colonial Auxiliary Forces.

In the book - Paul Cullen Citizen and Soldier: The Life and Times of Major General Paul Cullen
by Kevin Baker - he mentions that Cullen started work at Priestly & Morris, Chartered Accountants located in Barrack St, Sydney as a junior Office Boy, replacing "Arthur John Sandford Cotter who became the senior office boy, and a lifelong friend for 60 years". (p29). He goes on to mention that all the young men at Priestly & Morris were members of the Australian Garrison Artillery unit.

In 1980 he and Catherine were living at 19 Bathurst St, Woollahra, NSW according to the electoral rolls. His occupation was recorded as accountant.

Arthur married Katherine Jordan Violet Wells, daughter of John Henry Wells and Eva O'Sullivan, in 1942 in Woollahra, New South Wales, Australia. (Katherine Jordan Violet Wells was born on 1 Jun 1914 in Heathfield Private Hospital, Woods Ave, Woollahra, New South Wales, Australia and died after 1980.)
