The record of his birth at FamilySearch suggests his parents were Thomas Besley and Hannah, but I believe it was James and Hannah.
In 1841 he was with his mother and some siblings in the Wellington Union poorhouse, by 1851 he was living with his brother, James.
Lewis married Hannah Sharp on 29 Jan 1857 in Christ Church, Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. (Hannah Sharp was born in 1837 and died on 27 Aug 1870.)
