bullet  General Notes:

There is a James Tenant aged 60 living in Bothwell at the time of the 1841 Census, it's possible he is Alexander's father. An Alexander was born to a James and Catherine (spelled differently at Scotlandspeople) Tenant and baptised at Old Monkland on 2 May 1819. This may be he, especially as he named his own children James and Cathren.

At the time of the 1841 Census they were living in Newarthill, Lanarkshire next door to Peter Hardie (Christian's father) and his family. They were both aged 20 (Scotlandspeople says it's 30 for Alexander, but looks more like 20) and born in the County, Alexander was an Iron Miner. Their surname is recorded as TANNENT. Living with them was son, James, aged 2 and born in the County; and a Peter Burns and William Long both aged 25 and born outside the County. Also living in this household was John and Agnes Taylor and their young children. Agnes was Christian's sister.

No record can be found so far for them after this date. It is possible they were both deceased by 1851. Certainly it appears that Chrisitan was buried on 1 March 1848 in the Bellshill Relief Churchyard - her father's church - as "Mrs Tennant". There are also two records in 1843 and 1844 of Tenant children being buried here, one named as a child of Alexander Tenant, both of Newarthill. These are probably Alexander and Christian's children.

At the time of the 1851 Census three children believed to be theirs were all living with Christian's siblings: James and Cathren were with Agnes Taylor nee Hardie and her family, Janet was with James & Marion Hardie. Cathren/Catherine is believed to have emigrated with Agnes and her family to the US as a "Catherine Taylor" of the right age is recorded in Census records as being part of the family, and this couple are not known to have had their own daughter named Catherine. So far, I have not been able to determine what happened to James and Janet.
