Peter S Hardie

   Another name for Peter was Peter Hardie.

  General Notes:

Peter was living with his parents at Broad Top, Pennsylvania on the 8th June 1860. He was aged 12. In 1865 he was still living with them, and his siblings, but by now they had moved to Elmore, Faribault, Minnesota. He is recorded in the Census simply as "PS" and gender incorrectly recorded as female.

He enlisted in the US Army on the 25th July 1867 in Quincy, Illinois. This was just a couple of years after the end of the US Civil War. His age was listed as 21 but he would only have been 19. He was recorded as born in Lanarkshire, Scotland and he was a farmer by occupation. He had Hazel eyes, brown hair and a fair complexion. He was 5' 6" tall. Peter was discharged from the army at the expiration of his service on 20th July 1870 at what appears to be "New Fort Niagara". It appears he served in the 2nd and 11th Infantry.

There is a record of a marriage between Peter S. Hardie and Mary Jane Holden at McHenry, Illinois on 28 December 1875. Peter is recorded as 27 years old (i.e. birth year 1848) and Mary Jane is 18. This would appear to be this Peter.

The 1880 Census records a Peter Hardy, aged 30 and a Jane Hardy aged 24, living at Elgin, Illinois. This is just 22 miles from McHenry (where Peter and Mary Jane were married). Peter and both his parents were born in Scotland and Jane and both her parents were born in England. Peter is working as a carpenter. They have no children. It seems probable that this is the same couple.

I have not found any record of him after this time.
