bullet  General Notes:

In 1841 she was living with her parents in Adelaide St, St Albans. Her father Michael was aged 50, a Brushmaker, and not born in the County. His wife Sophia was 49, also not born in the County. Living with them were two of their children - Charles aged 18, an Agricultural labourer and Sarah aged 5, neither born in the county.

It appears that Sarah may came to Victoria as an Assisted Immigrant on the Thomas Arbuthnot, aged 20, in January 1857. She was travelling alone. The ship docked in Geelong on the 23rd January 1857. Sarah was recorded as a Laundress from Hertford, England, religion Church of England and she could read and write. Her immigration record records that she had "gone to father Michael Butcher Hope St". Whilst her father was certainly named Michael, he never emigrated to Australia. However, her sister Emma Mann did emigrate and lived in Geelong. And Sarah married in Geelong. The notation may have been wrongly interpreted by either Sarah or the recorder as there are too many similarities for this to be another Sarah, and no other record of a Sarah Butcher arriving which could be her.

She signed her name on Martha and Mary Jane's Birth Certificate so she was literate.

She is buried in the Wedderburn Cemetery where a number of her children are also buried. She is in the Wesleyan Section, Plot No. 154. The Burial No. was 928.
