General Notes: James signed his name on daughter Madeline's birth record indicating that he could write. Noted events in his life were: • He worked as an Agricultural Labourer at the time of Madeline's birth on 16 Jun 1861 in Bothwell, Lanark, Scotland. • He worked as a Carter at the time of his wife's death on 20 Nov 1874 in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. • He worked as a Forester at the time of Mary's Birth on 8 May 1866 in Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland. James married Elizabeth Cullen, daughter of James Cullen and Mary Hardie, on 11 Dec 1857 in Carnbrae, Bothwell, , Lanark, Scotland. (Elizabeth Cullen was born about 1832 in Bothwell, Lanark, Scotland and died on 20 Nov 1874 in 29 Westmuir St, Glasgow, , Lanark, Scotland.). The cause of her death was Chronic Bronchitis. Marriage Notes: It was a United Presbyterian Church ceremony. Witnesses were James Witherspoon, Engine Keeper and John Allan, Coaler. There is a notation in the Occupation section saying "Both young persons" which is unusual as it usually denotes marital status e.g Bachelor, Spinster. |
