Signed M Scott Dickson, D.D. Minister of Old Monkland Parish Church
Both parties were 27 years of age. James George Shimmins was noted as deceased at the time of this marriage but his occupation was given as Electrical Journeyman. Witnesses were the Minister, Hugh Shimmins of 114 Woodside Street, Coatbridge and Jeannie Ritchie Gray of 40 Aitken Street, Airdrie. Part of a letter dated 3rd May 2000 from James George Shimmins of Balfron: "In 1957 while obtaining a blazer in the Co-operative, I met a gentleman who recalled Gran bringing her 14 year old eldest son Charlie to the Co-op in Coatbridge for the first day of his working life.(1921(?)) I was told by him that Charlie was there only a short time as his intelligence and integrity far exceeded the Co-op environment. I was greatly impressed by him. Ann (the writer's wife) has an aunt who also recalls my father starting in the very same Co-op aged 14 (1928) Are we here seeing hints of a political persuasion or a widow's firm belief in then good prospects? I wonder! I also recall surnames of Mathieson, Rose and Shimmins all met during family visit as a boy to Ayrshire - Monkton with Aunt Cathie
