General Notes: At the time of the 1851 census Alexander and his family were living at 12 Union St, Hamilton, Lanark, Scotland. He was aged 48, a Handloom weaver, born in Bridgeton, Lanark. Living here also was his wife Agnes, aged 45, also born Bridgeton, Lanark, and children, all born in Hamilton, and all unmarried: Mary, 26, a Lace Darner; Robert, 18, a Handloom weaver; Agnes, 16, a Lace Tambourer; Alexander, 11, a Handloom weaver; Margaret, 9, a Lace Tambourer; James, 7, a Scholar; and Hugh, 4. Noted events in his life were: • He worked as a Handloom weaver at the time of the census in 1851 in Hamilton, Lanark, Scotland. • He worked as a Managing Agent according to his wife's death cert on 21 Oct 1862 in Hamilton, Lanark, Scotland. Alexander married Agnes Shaw, daughter of Robert Shaw ** and Mary Johnston **, on 21 Nov 1823 in Cumbernauld, Lanark, Scotland. (Agnes Shaw was born circa 1806 in Bridgeton, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland and died on 21 Oct 1862 in 35 Cadzow St, Hamilton, Lanark, Scotland.). The cause of her death was Cancer of stomach, many years. |
