Joe returned to USA for his WW1 Army service. He was a Piper and was used for recruitment purposes. After the war he found it difficult to find work in USA. He ended up working in India for about 5 years. When he returned to Scotland he got a job in Insurance. He and Jess married in 1937 and lived in Fifeshire. He died in 1950 but Jess lived until 2001.They didn't have any children.
